New: Record Audio and Get an Instant Transcript

Until now, getting a transcript on TranscriptAny meant starting with something that already existed — a YouTube link, a TikTok video, or a file sitting on your computer. That covers most use cases, but not all of them. Sometimes you don't have a file yet. You just have a thought, a quick voice memo, or a conversation happening right in front of you, and you want it in text before it's gone.

That's what today's update is for. TranscriptAny can now record audio directly from your microphone and transcribe it the moment you stop — right in your browser, with nothing to install.

How It Works

The new Record option sits right alongside YouTube, Other URL, and Upload file at the top of the homepage tool. Here's the flow:

• Open TranscriptAny and click the Record tab.
• Click the red record button — your browser will ask for microphone permission the first time.
• Talk. A live timer keeps track of how long you've been recording.
• Click stop, and your recording uploads and transcribes automatically using the same AI engine that powers file uploads.
• Copy the text or download it as a .txt file, right from the result.

Where This Comes In Handy

A few situations where recording directly beats uploading a file:

• Voice memos and dictation — capture an idea the second you think of it instead of opening a separate recording app first.
• In-person interviews and conversations — record a discussion straight into the browser and get a working transcript right after.
• Quick notes-to-self — faster than typing, and you get clean text back instead of a raw audio file you'd have to revisit later.

One honest limitation worth calling out: this feature records whatever your microphone picks up, so it works great for anything happening in the room with you. It's not built to capture other participants' audio in an online meeting (like a Zoom or Google Meet call) unless your system is set up to route that audio through your input device — that's a different, bigger feature we're actively scoping for a future release.

Free to Use, Same as File Uploads

Recording shares the same free daily allowance as uploading a file, so there's no separate limit to think about. Pro users get unlimited recordings, same as everything else.
